Part 1 Backpacking Boots by Nutnfancy

September 25, 2010 by admin

In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don’t review specific boots and probably won’t ever: models change frequently and it’s just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot. ** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for you. I apologize but I just don’t have the time to research it for you.

I’m REALLY hoping Youtube will leave this on here. This was a 27-minute documentary recorded off of CBC news several months ago for a school who hikes the trail with a group of students annually. If you or someone else is planning to hike the trail, and interested to see a full preview of the trail of what to be prepared for, you’ve found the right video. Video is in three parts. Youtube, please leave this on here! Credit to CBC News. Thanks!

11 lb backpacking kit includes pack, sleeping gear, pad, rain gear, poncho/tarp tent with bug netting, water filtering and purification, cooking and eating gear, first aid kit, etc. It’s complete, safe, relatively cheap and comfortable. (Comment: Not in the video but in the pack is also a 5 x 10 foot plastic ground cloth made from punture resistant temporary storm window film available at any hardware store….and it weighs only 4 ounces. Also, see “ultralight backpacking kit 2″ for what I carry in my pocket.) I also carry a cell phone camera for pictures.
