Pt 1 “Moonscape Backpacking” by Nutnfancy

Another Nutnfancy Gear Testing Adventure with friend Cr0cket20. Our goal is a beautiful lake basin at about 9500 feet and as a mid-June hike, it usually is a straight forward route. Not this time. We encounter a lot more snow than we’d thought. It mounds up to 20 feet in places and completely obscures the trail as we gain elevation. Luckily its compacted with the warm temperatures and snow shoes aren’t needed. It does increase the difficulty. No matter. We joke and carry on with the higher energy levels that usually accompany the trip’s beginning and make some good progress. Topics include our gear, wilderness trapping and spearing, knives, moose, and coming down a mountain in a frying pan.//////////////////////////Music licensed to TNP from Jason Shaw.

“WhereThe Air Is Thin” Backpacking Adventure by Nutnfancy

The Summer 2010 Nutnfancy backpack crew sets out on another high mountain adventure, this time climbing above 11700 feet. The hike is arduous and holds danger at several points. The views are stunning. We hike past and show the waterfalls, creeks, snow fields, alpine basins, quaking aspens and conifers, valley views, mountain flowers, high mountain meadows, boulder and talus slopes and the associated knife ridges, and a beautiful glacier. In this crew are Nutnfancy, son LastSuspect, and our intrepid Mountain Dog, Allie. We enjoy the frequent and close by company of our mountain goat friends as we reach the peak with awe inspiring views. High winds on the peak, a treacherous 25 foot cliff decent, and a glacier glissade required extra care but conquered safely. We log about 20 miles in our hiking and backpacking adventure in WTAIT adventure and it is exhausting, even being in shape. We press on through some minor injuries and chalk up another memorable adventure. These videos help us share that memory with you (they are hard to make too!). Watch for the WTAIT Actual series. Thanks for coming along. //////////// Music: “Takin Yo Time ( The Wingman Mix )” by Loveshadow (feat. Brad Sucks and Audiotechnica)

Part 2 Backpacking Boots by Nutnfancy

In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don’t review specific boots and probably won’t ever: models change frequently and it’s just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot. ** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for you. I apologize but I just don’t have the time to research it for you.

11 lb backpacking kit includes pack, sleeping gear, pad, rain gear, poncho/tarp tent with bug netting, water filtering and purification, cooking and eating gear, first aid kit, etc. It’s complete, safe, relatively cheap and comfortable. (Comment: Not in the video but in the pack is also a 5 x 10 foot plastic ground cloth made from punture resistant temporary storm window film available at any hardware store….and it weighs only 4 ounces. Also, see “ultralight backpacking kit 2″ for what I carry in my pocket.) I also carry a cell phone camera for pictures.

Many people are looking for a more active and healthy alterenative to the typical vacation. Some are heading out into various beautiful wilderness areas on backpacking trips. Or they may be traveling to far away cities around the world. Whether looking for inexpensive and adventurous ways to get away from it all or having had some hiking and camping experiences in the past, planning a backpacking trip could fullfill your needs.

There are many things that people think about when they hear the term backpacking trip. For some, it recalls urban backpacking culture, where men and women would crisscross the urban landscape with their backpacks, living without anything except what rests in their packs. To others backpacking often refers to an intense, outdoor camping experience. A backpacking trip can take a single weekend or a few months, depending on what the backpacker wants. Traveling by backpack can take you across the globe. A backpacker can see the landscape and meet people on a personal basis at a slower pace.

There has been a significant increase in backpacking trips across places like southeast Asia. You may find backpackers in a truly wide variety of areas. Not only will they frequent the cities, but they will also head out into vast stretches of wilderness, displaying a truly formidable type of self-reliance. If you are interested in backpacking trips, don’t worry! There’s no need to start off in this fashion; you will find plenty of different opportunities to hit the trail, many of them no further than your own home state.

There is a real trend of environmental awareness on many backpacking trips. You will find that many people subscribe to the idea that you should take only photographs, leave only footprints and kill only time. This is an environmentally responsible credo and you will find that when you go backpacking that you are often responsible for your own trash, so plan accordingly. There are many different ways that experienced backpackers will conserve resources and reduce their waste products.

There are many ways to get started backpacking; few people simply hit the trail alone. Most often, people end up going with friends or family that will give them a lifelong love of the event, but other people won’t be introduced until a great deal later in their life. You will find that if you are really determined and can’t talk any of your friends or family into going with you, you will find that there are plenty of backpacking tours and guides that are available. Even if you can’t find anyone else who is interested, there is no reason you can’t take to the trail on your own.

A good backpacking trip can really change your entire life and world view. When you go backpacking, you will find that getting away from it all means a lot more than just turning your cell phone off. There are plenty of different reasons why you might want to go on a backpacking trip, but one great reason to go is to give yourself time to think.
