Great,? informative video. I have been watching Youtube all day and have left about 9 negative comments on lame videos. Finally, someone who knows how to give simple instructions and demonstrations. You didn’t waste any time with irrelevant info or let the camera run for 60 seconds without saying anything. Thanks for the help. If I ever need to do this, I’ll be thinking about you.

You’re? right, there isn’t a lot of videos explaining this. Great video thank you very much

Enjoyed this way to set up a? quick tarp tent. Thanks.

@1kn0wl33tsp34k You? can do pretty much the same thing with other size tarps.Sure sticks will work.

    Two quick questions:
Does it have to be an 8′ by? 10′ tarp?
Will sharpened sticks work in place of the tent stakes?

This is a good way to try tarp camping without investing a lot of money on a sil nylon tarp. I like the pole design you did.? Gonna check out that video.

glad I started going through your video’s, I’ve been looking for a great bug out tarp? set up and this is the fastest and easiest by far. I think i want to use a 10 X 20 so I can get height …..so maybe a small fire won’t be an issue…also thinking maybe a teepee setup…but like you said condensation might be a issue with a door.

@chinagypsy I did a follow up video on the hiking poles. I would like to see your pics of your setup. I climbed diamond head in? 2000.

Really informative video Mike, thanks for that! I have been living on the slopes of Diamond Head Crater here in Honolulu for about two weeks using an 8 X 10 blue woven synthetic tarp. I staked it out as a simple pup tent design, and it has done very well in both high wind and light rain. I will purchase the 8 X 10 as you had and try out your design and report back with photos! Really like the hiking pole design. When I first saw it, I thought it? was a purchased model.

Your wife’s gonna be pissed putting extra nail holes in the? deck..lol

@oregonmikes – thanks for? working thru what I was asking, LOL. Good point about condensation … I definitely need to keep that in mind!

  14. oregonmikes says:

@NewbieCamper I think I understand roughly what you are talking about. I think it would work okay, keep in mind that if you close it off your going to get? a lot of condensation inside from the moisture in your breath.

  15. NewbieCamper says:

Thanks for a really informative video!
Q – With that size tarp … could you stake the front using the grommets one back from the front edge and still have enough room inside to sleep … with the two front flaps/panels? (created once you add stick or pole) acting as front ‘doors’ and thus fully enclosing you?
Not sure if I’m being clear, but hope you can figure out what I’m asking. Thanks!

Great stuff! I actually have the? same tarp so I’m already ahead of the game. Thanks for sharing ;) c

  17. oregonmikes says:

@Pagansdad I have used it many many times. It? holds up great if you get it tight. Give it a try.

  18. Pagansdad says:

How do you think this would hold? up in some actual weather…..hmmmmm

Great video. This will be something I will show my? kids this weekend! I like how you showed all the steps very clearly and didn’t rush thru it. Thanks!

not worth the holes in the deck when u would never set it up like that when you were hiking…gonna carry a hammer and nails? and stick it a tent platform? Hope not…u’ll destroy that too…also..get a sil-nylon tarp , much lighter, and get it with grommets, that way u can stick the tip of the hiking pole thru the grommet, then stake the loop at the ground, then the wind will not knock it down…tyvek for ground sheet…with 8×10 tarp and ground sheet 20 oz…werkz fur me!

  24. Saikocity says:

Damm buddy………… I don’t use beautiful much…… but your deck is BEAUTIFUL…!!! did you really use nails on it.?? it must be nice to be you… :)

Thanks for the demo…….. I love youtube because of people like you… We didn’t all have fathers who were around to teach us such things… Great job..! 26/M/CA? ….. wow…… I’m 26 and still feel boyish with many tasks…….
