Ham Radio Expedition – Mountain-topping w/FT817 & Buddistick

A video log of our adventure hiking on Mt Herman. My goats Rooster & Peanut dance on the rocks while the ‘old goat’ works 20m SSB. FT-817 and Buddistick made it all the way to Fairbanks! Not bad for the bottom of the solar cycle.

Hi, very nice vid ! :)

But got a question, i saw ki0pf carrying an old SEL made german army SEM 35 tranceiver, i own two of these, but i can’t find the original antenna… absolutely nowhere :
So maybe you or one of your friends could help me out and give me some advice where to get one.

The goats are too much. Enjoyed our QRP QSO btw.

  18. technogearhead says:

I love that they have a pic or video during the QSO.

  19. Morningfeather says:

I did hear the “HFPack” in the very beginning of the video and found the HFPack website. What fun! I’ll join the group as soon as I get my general callsign.

  20. goathiker says:

GL on you test!! QSOs were just the luck of who was out there listen? It’s part of the magic of ham radio you never know who you’re gone to make contact with! But doing it someplace adventurous makes it all the sweeter! Have FUN! Steve/R&P

  21. Morningfeather says:

Wow! What fun! For me, the best part was when the goat looked into the camera and ’said’, 5 Watts? That was hilarious! I’m going for my exam Friday to upgrade to general. Now I can hardly wait! The video really showed the sense of adventure and discovery that I find in ham radio. Were these contacts prearranged or was it a net? Let me know, I may be trying to reach you in a month or two on your next mountaintop expedition.

What a brilliant video! I love these QRP videos! what video camera support arm do you use? I felt really relaxed after watching that, and a Cherry on top nice one. I really like the way you get the QSL pictures of the amatuers and where they are, excellent job! helps to get out of the city once a week, 95% done on my QRP setup. love to those goats ;)

Cant walk all the time! When you stop where do you sit/ I am looking to take a small table and chair with me. Do you have any ideas?
