check our 23 minute film about hitchhiking, english subtitles!all for charity!we worked hard to make it the best hitchhiking movie in the internet!the decision if its true is up to you!=)
you’ll find it on vimeo, search for “Tramprennen”, links seem not to work here…
hitch hiking is great, Englands not bad, highlands of scotland is easy, france is easy except for the language barrier.
It’s still possible even though you don’t see many fellow hitchhikers (from experience in Norway), but it is a shame many have negative beliefs towards hitchhiking. I’m doing my own HH project atm, so it was great to see this vid you guys made!
My girlfriends and I hitched through the alps this year. because te locals no there is no public transport it was easy. First person to see my thumb always pcked us up. in one day we were picked up by, a young guy, a middle aged guy, an old couple. and nearly a teenage girl (but she wa going the wrong way). I would recomend it. our week holiday cost less than €150 for both of us. thats travel to destination, food, acomadation and maps.
I started hitchhiking at 13 in Israel, where it is relatively easy. Europe was harder, but nothing compares to trying to hitch a ride here in America, you can feel that you’re hated and looked down upon here. It can take 2 or 3 days to get what would only take 6-8 hours by driving.
fuck hitchhiking, ride trains
im going to thailand in december for a holiday and don’t have much money right now… I live in Melbourne, Australia at the moment. Flights to Bangkok are about half price from Western Australia as opposed to Melbourne, and i’ve always wanted to have a massive adventure and head west….. Would be a massive trip though and would have take about a week i think… I’ll sleep on it
Here in Russia hitch-hiking is rather popular among people between 15 and 30. Maybe that’s because I’m in, but i used to meet friends on the road thousands kilometers away from home. It’s kind of subculture: endless travels, meetings outdoor, communities on the internet, books and even guides, people asking for host, and people giving away places to sleep… Smiles. So many miracles on the Road!
A lost art? I’ve Hitchiked cross country (U.S.A.) and back, as well as up and down the top and bottem. Htichiking is still vary possible, as you concluded, anywhere in the world. Hitchiking may be less prevolent, due to fear from a news battered society, but it is still very popular. If you want to hit the road, all you need is a sleeping bag and patience. And when the waits get long, remember the golden “Rule of Thumb” – Eventually, someone will pick you up. It only takes one.
ive hitchhiked once and the guy was baked like a ritz cracker
why ? Its illegal where I live to hitchhike or pick up a hitchhiker.
nice video, but it’s hard to understand a word anyone says in the 1st 2 minutes
Ohhhh man. I can’t wait! I’m going to hitchhike across the country in a matter of weeks. *rubs hand in anticipation*
HosteDenis- thats good advise; of course its practical- if I was a lone driver, id probably pick up a hitchhiker for company too.
Not at all… Well, I of course always say ‘thank you’… And the main reason people take hitchhikers along with them is not because they feel sorry for the hitchhiker, but because they’re driving alone and wouldn’t mind some company. So you do always have to be social, and listen to their stories or tell your own stories… That way neither of you is bored and you’ll both enjoy it more. I’ve even had drivers appreciate the talk so much they drop me off where I need to be, but they don’t…
HosteDenis- Thankyou for the reply;
Do people picking up hitchhikers generally expect something in return in your experience?
Im a guy;
Thanks again
About the hitchhiking… Just go for it man. I’ve done it loads of time, and the safety paranoia surrounding hitchhiking is just an unwanted and overrated nuisance.
Well, this comes from a man of course… I can understand that as a girl (don’t know what sex you are) you have the occasional freak that takes you along… But asides from that, I do it loads, so do some of my friends, I’ve even hitchhiked to other countries (see my oldest video, although it’s in my own language)…
I have never hitchhiked before. In truth ive been a little paranoid about safety. Right now though im short on money and would like to get to London (which is about 400 km from where I live). Im still in two minds because ive seen mixed messages coming from various sources, but I would like to try it at least once. Any advise please from experienced hikers?
Cheers
good video man! I did 2 months ago, Paris-Brucelas Brucelas-Amsterdam, Ams-Berlin. that was great, a real adventure, sometimes frustrating but eeverything ended well. one dutcch junkie guy kidnaped me for about 6 hours, into his anti-crack house but the rest was great…haha! thanks to the polish truck driver who gave me like a liter of vodka in Hannover!!! thanks bro!
nick drake – road
Well done lads . . . . the questions at the end, these are my thoughts . . look at the amount of traffic on the roads in any film from the 60’s and compare it to today, during the 80’s car ownership came in everyones reach, so anyone hitching was seen as a bit wierd cos u could get a car on the road for under £200 and sort urself out. Thats wot i did, but it’s not a lost art cos the road, an adventurous spirit and a thumb are all still available, as u have very well demonstrated . . !!
If you guys havent Read Jack Kerouac books On the Road, read it … its a classic and it rocks
excellent video.
