Well done lads . . . . the questions at the end, these are my thoughts . . look at the amount of traffic on the roads in any film from the 60's and compare it to today, during the 80's car ownership came in everyones reach, so anyone hitching was seen as a bit wierd cos u could get a car on the road for under £200 and sort urself out. Thats wot i did, but it's not a lost art cos the road, an adventurous spirit and a thumb are all still available, as u have very well demonstrated . . !!

I have never hitchhiked before. In truth ive been a little paranoid about safety. Right now though im short on money and would like to get to London (which is about 400 km from where I live). Im still in two minds because ive seen mixed messages coming from various sources, but I would like to try it at least once. Any advise please from experienced hikers?
Cheers

About the hitchhiking... Just go for it man. I've done it loads of time, and the safety paranoia surrounding hitchhiking is just an unwanted and overrated nuisance.

Well, this comes from a man of course... I can understand that as a girl (don't know what sex you are) you have the occasional freak that takes you along... But asides from that, I do it loads, so do some of my friends, I've even hitchhiked to other countries (see my oldest video, although it's in my own language)...

Not at all... Well, I of course always say 'thank you'... And the main reason people take hitchhikers along with them is not because they feel sorry for the hitchhiker, but because they're driving alone and wouldn't mind some company. So you do always have to be social, and listen to their stories or tell your own stories... That way neither of you is bored and you'll both enjoy it more. I've even had drivers appreciate the talk so much they drop me off where I need to be, but they don't... :)
